creating meaningful work

In a world that celebrates fast moving spectacles

The greatest act of rebellion is to take time with your creations.

I suppose that’s why humans have always been so drawn to the movies. This idea that no matter how chaotic the world around us feels, we can all sit down and commit to entering a world that someone has dedicated time towards.

A mutual agreement, upon which the creator agrees to tell the best story they can and where the audience member says, I’ll sit here and give you the time.

Some internet filmmakers have forged this relationship with their audiences. You see a new post from them and you know that you need to give it time. To set aside moments of your day because this is something that rises above the algorithm. A piece of art.

Whether it’s Monique Jones, Gawx, Recider, or anyone else –There’s a certain level of respect you give the work.

I find this fascinating, because it goes against the natural incentives of the internet; which are to create a lot, fast. Yet, it’s a clear example of what makes us human. We aren’t here to pollute our digital spaces with noise. But we’re here to inspire, make people feel something, and create art that is remembered.

We want to celebrate that. I suppose it’s the entire nature of Creator Camp, our events, and why we’re now hosting a film festival.

Because we want to create a space for creatives that believe this as well. Those who want to create not because of the rules of the platform, but because they have something meaningful they want to share.

There are 64 days until the Camp Film Fest. You can read more about the workshops, speakers, and filmmakers here. Join sessions like "Filmmaking is a Marathon" with Jake Frew & Eric Floberg, and "Directors on Directors" with Natalie Lynn & Gawx.

Watch films from Valspire Family & American Baron. We're on a mission to create a space for you to meet your people and leave feeling inspired.

Regardless if you come out – here’s a little reminder for your day to create things that mean something to you, not the world around you. Because we need more of those stories out in the world.
