The Latest News In The Camp Community
Hey friends!
Base Camp was such a success, it was awesome to bring the community together in person after months of working behind the scenes.
It’s funny we almost spent more time in Bend, Oregon than we did at our new home in Texas. I feel like I know the roads in Bend better than Austin.
Anyway, the team and I are now back in Austin, TX (so I’ll have time to learn the streets). We’re tying up loose ends related to Base Camp and then regrouping to plan out the rest of the year. We have some exciting things in the works!

Community Vlog #6 - somethings can’t be counted
BUILD YOUR WORLD
Ryan (the professor) our co-founder introduced me to the idea of “building your world” about a year ago. He actually has a podcast with Annemarie where he talks about this in more detail.
Fun Fact there’s also an urban dictionary definition that I created months ago before Creator Camp 2.0 on this concept/word.
This week I finished designing my room at our new home, it’s 1 of 4 rooms that make up our “Creator Camp HQ”, and I filled it with all the things I love. It’s my own little world and it was inspired by the concept Ryan taught me.
Anyways, in the episode, Ryan talks about world-building through more of an artistic lens. The concept stems from the idea that the world & social media tend to drive you into a niche where you’re solely focused on one thing. You have one job or you specialize in one area.
Humans are multi-faceted creatures, we can’t just do one thing.
Building your world in many ways means leaning into your aesthetic, the things you enjoy, the things that make you unique, and even leaning into things that don’t make any sense.
Ryan’s example is Lego’s. Yes, he aspires to be a filmmaker but that doesn’t mean he should stop building Legos. By leaning into these intricate things you add more color to your canvas. In the case of YouTube, you also add more touch points of relatability or curiosity.
It’s like our friend Brooke Cormier, she’s an incredible artist & painter but that’s not all she is. She loves to garden and it actually ties into her creative process. In fact, her gardening video is one of the most popular videos on her YouTube channel.
Another example would be Max and his love for running. He loves Nike shoes and has old running T-shirts, it adds to his world.
Take Simon and his obsession with trying every energy drink in the world, myself and the corn I’m growing in our front yard, even Creator Camp. It’s all a form of world-building
There are countless examples and as Ryan says you have to, “trust that it will have a play in your life down the line”.
Go build your world :)
OUR COMFORT SPACE 🛋
Speaking of world-building — our new friend Valerie who attended Base Camp is building something alongside her fiance’ called Our Comfort Space.
It’s a corner of the internet dedicated to highlighting love in all things. It’s a space for believers (God) and non-believers to feel welcome. They are in the early stages of bringing their vision to life and have already begun fostering an amazing community.
In the future, they plan to host events, create merch, films, and even produce podcast episodes. As Valerie explained all this to me at Base Camp I could really see the world they were aiming to build. It’s a beautiful one.
Also, the first episode of their podcast launched this week! Go check it out and stay a while if you enjoy it!
Khalil’s NYU Takeover
Khalil DaTerra is a multi-hyphenated individual. He’s a filmmaker, content creator, artist, founder, and now NYU speaker.
We met Khalil a year ago in Las Vegas at Natalie Lynn’s Birthday and I had the opportunity to get to know him better at Base Camp.
Khalil gave a workshop at Base Camp that touched on AI and how to use CHATGPT as a creative co-pilot as well as introducing a product that he’s working on called the BEMORE journal. He used AI as a creative co-pilot to assist with the design and software development for BEMORE
This past Friday Khalil gave a talk at NYU on this topic - a huge achievement. In fact, he actually has a few upcoming talks at NYU that anyone can attend.
Congratulations Khalil 🙌
Friday, October, 27th at NYU - Short Form Filmmaking Panel
The panel includes some campers: Ethan Uncurated & Zahra Hussain
Friday, November, 10th - Test Your New Co-Pilot

Chris’ [Corn]er 🌽
It’s been a few weeks since I’ve updated you guys on the corn. We’ve made some monumental progress since the last update.
The team and I were away in Bend, Oregon for 2.5 weeks hosting Base Camp. During our time away Annemarie took care of my little garden.
Annemarie, if you reading this, which I know you are, thanks!
Below you can see the progress after just 2 weeks of being away.
It’s quite fascinating how when you’re around the same people, places, or things you don’t notice the incremental changes that occur with each passing day.
It’s not until you leave someplace for a period of time and then come back do you realize how much has changed (or in this case has grown).
It’s been a year and 2 months since the first Creator Camp and sometimes being involved in the day-to-day makes it hard to feel like we’re growing or not doing enough.
However, when I remove myself and take a step back, that’s when I see just how much we accomplished in this short time span. Give yourself grace 🤍
Some Fun Extra Things & Opportunities 🙌
Catherine Mccord premiered her film at Base Camp and it’s now live! Go watch it here
There are so many beautiful videos recapping Base Camp it’s hard to list them all but here are a few from Raymond, Samantha, Serafina, Jack, and Willy Doan
We’re also seeking additional support over at Creator Camp if anyone is interested in a 3-month internship. Feel free to fill out this form.
We started a Creator Camp running club through Strava. Last week our winner was Annie Dang - you can sign up and run with us here!
Collectibles! We have ONLY ~5 extra hoodies from Camp 2.0 that we won’t be restocking. They’ve been sitting at my house for some time so we thought we’d put them out in the world along with a “more than content” poster featuring Needle Rock Lodge.
