The Latest News In The Camp Community
Hey everyone, Happy Monday. Surprise, it’s Chris again!
We’ve had another amazing week here in Austin, TX. Today, I’m writing from the Basement Boys HQ. There’s lots getting done which is exciting. Who would have guessed that you’re so much more efficient when your co-founders are in the same house instead of across the country?
Without further ado here are some of the incredible things going on in the community.
Camp Vlog #2- it’s all part of the process
Isobel Hope Crosses the 40k Milestone 💨
We met Isobel Hope in the summer of 2022 at the first Creator Camp. It’s been incredible to watch her growth from then till now.
I would describe Isobel’s videos are introspective, vulnerable, often very poetic, and carry a youthful spirit.
Isobel just hit the incredible milestone of 40,000 subscribers on YouTube. Congratulations Isobel, we’re all proud to watch and support your journey.
keep going :)
Ryan Ng presented the Pioneer Award from IMI
Our co-founder, Ryan Ng, whom many of you know as “the professor”, was presented an award this week from IMI (independent media initiative).
Ryan earned this award for helping pioneer vision on YouTube in the form of “The YouTube New Wave” and specifically his video titled “Money Killed YouTube, Here’s How We Fix It”
The video primarily discusses the idea that the current landscape of YouTube is stale. It’s almost this endless cycle of the same content and something needs to give.
“Everything has already been done so many times” - Emma Chamberlain
Ryan draws a parallel between Virgil/Kanye & Casey Neistat. Just as they reinvented what fashion could be, in a similar vein, Casey reinvented what a movie could be. He proved you can tell meaningful and impactful stories on YouTube without the professional equipment of Hollywood.
“The future of YouTube is not spending more money on 48-hour challenges. It’s not making faster content. It’s going to be a generational awakening…where the youth will redefine what Movies can be with vlogs..”
If you haven’t had the chance to watch this video, I highly recommend it.
BuildOn’s Better Together Concert 🎵
Part of our ethos is to inspire the next generation of creators to use their influence as a means for positive impact. We’re committed to this mission and for Creator Camp 2.0 we partnered with BuildOn, a non-profit that runs afterschool programs for the youth in the United States & builds schools in developing countries.
Recently, we met up with Morgan from BuildOn here in Austin. She shared with us some of the exciting things they are working on and we wanted to pass along the news and opportunities to anyone who might be interested.
Coffee W/Morgan Dickerson from BuildOn

Artists on The Rise 🔥
Justin Styvly is a filmmaker and photographer based out of Boston Massachusetts. We recently stumbled upon Justin and his work caught our attention.
Justin uses a unique combination of cinematography and narrative storytelling in his videos. His page features a number of short cinematic vlogs that are incredibly well-made. Going through his catalog you can see how his content has developed over the past year. He’s got a unique taste.
Here is one short by him I’d highly recommend: The Third Floor
Creator Camp Team Updates ⛺️
Simon found a cockroach in his garage, possibly his worst fear. It’s featured in the vlog.
This week with Cristina’s help we’re able to align on our vision for the future of the creator camp. We decided we really wanted to focus on going deep with our community and we feel confident in that direction
Internally we realized that we have reached a point where the structure of our team needs to change in order to support our growth. In the past, it’s been all of us equally deciding on things, essentially 4 visionaries.
What we’ve realized and recently established is that we need 1 visionary leading the way + 1 integrator who can help bring those ideas to life by developing a strategic plan. We’re excited to explore this dynamic and how it affects our efficiency/decisiveness.I mentioned this last week but we’re always looking for help. Creator Camp has been funded primarily through sponsorships. We’re starting to have initial conversations with sponsors for Camp 3.0
Janice had the incredible idea of opening the door for community members to bring in sponsors that they’ve worked with or have good relationships with. If there are any brands that you would want to bring to camp and could integrate well into a Creator Camp event perhaps through sponsoring an activity, editing session, outdoor adventure, or providing product, we would be extremely appreciative to explore those opportunities.
Some Fun Extra Things & Opportunities 🙌
Kelsey Rodriquez recently uploaded “25 digital products to sell online”
Shoutout to Samantha Lynn-Martinez for helping to design the in-person itineraries/calendars for Base Camp
We’re also seeking additional support over at Creator Camp if anyone is interested in a 3-month internship. Feel free to fill out this form.
We started a Creator Camp running club through Strava. Last week our winner was Nate GL with 18.2 km - you can sign up and run with us here!
Collectibles! We have ~20 extra hoodies from Camp 2.0 that we won’t be restocking. They’ve been sitting at my house for some time so we thought we’d put them out in the world along with a “more than content” poster featuring Needle Rock Lodge.
