The Latest News In The Camp Community
Hey everyone, welcome back. Chris here again! This week has been a whirlwind. We have officially moved to Austin, TX and I’m writing from our new kitchen. It’s only been 6 days, but oddly, it feels like a home already.
I’m excited to recap some things happening in the community this week!
P.S - we also made our first little vlog :)
Creator Camp Vlog - It’s all for something
The Reality of Content Creation
Our international friends Ste & Rachel, who are seriously some of the kindest people I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know, dropped a phenomenal video around the topic of what it takes to become a content creator.
The story takes the viewer behind the scenes and reveals the reality of what being a YouTuber or social media creator often entails. There are a number of challenges & hurdles that creators face that are rarely shared.
This video does an excellent job of shedding light on this truth and taking you behind the scenes with a ton of incredible creators, many of whom are a part of the camp community ⛺️
Simon, Max, Ryan, and myself included can totally relate to many of the things shared in the above video. If you have a moment we highly recommend giving it a watch!
What Happens if go all in on YouTube for 1 year?
Isa Haltam has many alter egos: Peter Parker, Indiana Jones, and Percy Jackson. Very similar to myself, Isa loves the heroes of the story. Unlike myself, he has an interesting tendency to climb every tree that he sees.
Isa has aspired to be a YouTuber since he was young and he’s given it multiple shots here & there but never a serious attempt…
However, this past year something changed and Isa was ready to give this whole “YouTube” thing a real shot. To actually put his best foot forward and see where it would take him. It’s now been 365 days since he took that first step. Below is his most recent upload, recapping EVERYTHING he’s learned along his journey.
Isa’s Bucket List:
Sail the ocean like a pirate
Find buried treasure
Be in a movie
Buy an apartment in Paris
Build a treehouse
Build a house that looks like a castle
Be sponsored by Monster (this kid inhales Monster energy drinks)
& Many more
If anyone in the camp community knows people with a pirate ship, or treasure map, or someone who works at Monster Energy, let us know! We wanna help Isa cross off some of these bucket list items!
#18 is destined to happen soon :)
Creator Camp Team Updates 🔥⛺️
A lot of our focus this week was thinking through the future of Creator Camp. Our mission, what/who we represent, and the relationship we want to have with the community. Cristina spent some time developing questions that really pushed us to think. I’d love to share some of these questions with you all. For any of you who have the time and want to fill out the questions. It would be awesome to get your perspective and we’d really appreciate it.
Questions:What do you believe Creator Camp represents currently?
In your own words, what do you think Creator Camp's mission is today?
Describe the current relationship between Creator Camp and the “community”. How do you perceive it?
This week we closed Notion as a sponsor for Base Camp. We had been in conversation with their team for quite some time and it was something that we were super excited about. Excitement started to taper off as we hadn’t heard back from their team in a number of weeks. We started to assume they were no longer interested in sponsoring Base Camp.
On Friday (September 9th), around 2 PM I got an email from Notion confirming our partnership! This was amazing news and gives us some breathing room to really think deeply about our future vision. We also managed to capture our reaction in the Creator Camp Vlog.
As we started thinking about Creator Camp 3.0 we wanted to ask the community for help. This was actually an idea from Janice (@Janice.Journal) that we thought was genius. As many of you know Creator Camp is funded through sponsorships which allow us to make the entire experience free.
We put a lot of effort and time into finding potential sponsors for our events. Sometimes this process can take months. Last year I spent around 6 months emailing companies and flying across the world to try and connect with people & brands.
Many of you guys have worked with awesome brands in the past. If there are any brands that you would want to bring to camp and could integrate well into a Creator Camp event perhaps through sponsoring an activity, editing session, outdoor adventure, or providing product, we would be extremely appreciative to explore those opportunities.
Some Fun Extra Things & Opportunities 🙌
Nate GL uploaded a new YouTube Video to PowderBlueMedia
The Korean NPC, aka our close friend James Seo, also uploaded a new vlog on YouTube.
Life of Riza just crossed 300,000 subscribers! Woot Woot!
Wholesome Simon is looking for some editing help for his channel. If you’re interested feel free to email [email protected]
We’re also seeking additional support over at Creator Camp if anyone is interested in a 3-month internship. Feel free to fill out this f,
We started a Creator Camp running club through Strava. Last week our winner was Nate GL with 18.2 km - you can sign up and run with us here!
Collectibles! We have ~20 extra hoodies from Camp 2.0 that we won’t be restocking. They’ve been sitting at my house for some time so we thought we’d put them out in the world along with a “more than content” poster featuring Needle Rock Lodge.
Thanks for tuning in this week everyone. I really appreciate anyone who takes the time to read these little updates.
Dreaming Big,
Chris & CC Team
